ADHD, ASD & menopause
Myla understand that neurodiverse women may have different needs when it comes to menopause care.
For many women with ADHD a drop in oestrogen can have a serious impact on their life, with a worsening of symptoms such as brain fog and memory issues. We find that perimenopause is often the hardest time, with the fluctuations of symptoms exacerbating the fluctuations of neurotransmitters that come with ADHD. We often find that neurodiverse women have always struggled with their own hormones and many have had years of struggles with PMS or PMDD. We have the expertise to prescribe hormones in slightly different ways from the ‘usual’ hormone treatments in perimenopause- sometimes using regimes that try to flatten out the abrupt spikes and dips of hormones rather than exacerbate them.
We recommend speaking to a specialist who is experienced in listening and communicating with neurodivergent patients, ensuring the best care. Our team of doctors are all experienced at managing hormonal changes in patients with ADHD and ASD.
